The Purpose of the Disabled Student Unit Coordination:
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Disabled Student Unit Coordination was established to support all disabled students in educational, social and cultural areas. The unit also plans activities to eliminate prejudices against disabled people both in our university and outside, and to increase social sensitivity and academic awareness.
The necessary work is carried out by the unit to support disabled students in coping with possible physical and attitudinal obstacles that they may encounter in academic and social life. All services planned to ensure that the university is accessible to every individual are within the scope of the unit.
In addition, when deemed necessary, it can also provide support in determining the needs for services related to disabled personnel working in our university and their disabled relatives.
Authority, Duties and Responsibilities
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Disabled Student Unit Coordination Office started its activities in the 2010-2011 academic year in accordance with the Higher Education Institutions Disabled Persons Consultation and Coordination Regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 20.06.2006 and numbered 26204. It has been continuing its activities since 2011 in accordance with the Higher Education Institutions Disabled Persons Consultation and Coordination Regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 14/2/2014 and numbered 28913. Duties of the Board of Directors
ARTICLE 7- The duties of the Board of Directors are as follows:
a) To make decisions on issues related to the work of the unit,
b) To determine the principles of cooperation with real and legal persons related to the field of work of the unit,
c) To evaluate the annual activity report and the annual work program for the following year and to make a decision to be forwarded to the Rectorate.
Coordinator and duties
ARTICLE 8- The coordinator is a person who is assigned by the Rector from among the academic or administrative staff of the University and who works in line with the duties of the Unit. The term of office is three years. The term of office of the coordinator may be extended by the Rector for the same periods. The coordinator is responsible for ensuring coordination between the disabled students of the University and the Unit and for assisting in the work of the Unit, and is responsible to the relevant Vice Rector and Rector in his/her work.
* The coordinator identifies and monitors the work, needs and practices carried out/planned in line with this Directive in all units of BEU. He/she reports any deficiencies to the relevant Vice Rector. The coordinator's work plan and hours are determined with the approval of the relevant Vice Rector. The coordinator works in coordination with the University units.
** The coordinator's requests deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors are met by the Rectorate

History
The emergence of Disabled Student Units in universities began with the “Higher Education Institutions Disabled Consultation and Coordination Regulation”, which was first issued in 2006. The purposes of Disabled Student Units in the relevant regulation The purpose of this regulation is to take the necessary measures and make arrangements in order to prepare the necessary academic environment to facilitate the education lives of disabled students receiving higher education and to ensure their full participation in education-training processes, and to regulate the working procedures and principles of the disabled student units to be established within the Higher Education Council Disabled Students Commission, Disabled Students Consultation and Coordination Unit, ÖSYM Disabled Students Consultation and Coordination Unit and higher education institutions. It is expressed as follows.
The Disabled Student Unit Coordination Board of our University consists of ten members, including the President, under the presidency of the Vice Rector, four members elected by the University Board of Directors from among one faculty member who is specialized in the field of the disabled or specialized in a field close to the field of special education, to be proposed by the Boards of Directors of all units that carry out educational activities affiliated to the University, one representative member from the Department of Construction and Technical Affairs, Department of Health, Culture and Sports, and Department of Student Affairs, appointed by the Rectorate, the Coordinator, and one disabled student representative to be determined by the Rectorate from among the disabled students studying at the University.

The regulation regulating the unit activities was published in the Official Gazette dated 14/2/2014 and numbered 28913 and updated as the Higher Education Institutions Disabled Consultation and Coordination Regulation.
